Do you realize that you were created on purpose for a purpose? Yes, you. And only you can carry it out in your own unique way, with your special touch. When you reflect on that, do you have a hard time believing that you could have something the world needs that no one else has?
I have struggled with this a lot at certain times in my life. Not even too long ago, Kris held me in his arms while I cried my eyes out because I was overwhelmed with self doubt and insecurity. I feel like God has placed big dreams in my heart, yet I watch myself not fully going for them because I have weak moments where I fall for the whisper in my ear that says, “you’re not worthy.” I catch myself comparing me to other women and the thought will creep in, “wow, she really has it all together, how can I measure up to that?” But, do you know what that self talk is? Fear. Fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear that I’m not good enough. And fear is the source from which the enemy feeds. Once we give in to fear, we are fueling his fire! Fear is the opponent to love, and God is love. “There is no fear in love. Perfect love casts fear out of our hearts. People have fear when they are afraid of being punished. The man who is afraid does not have perfect love.” 1 John 4:18.
That all sounds lovely, who wouldn’t want to cast their fear out if it were that easy?! But really though, where does your fear come from? Why is it so much easier to believe the bad stuff about ourselves than the good? The Word says, “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10. But unfortunately, we are born into a fallen world full of brokenness. And as children, teenagers and young people, we start to believe the lies the world and the people who are supposed to love us have spoken. Whether it was; an absent parent, rejection from peers, any type of relationship abuse, failure to perform, hurtful words or neglect, to name a few, they are all lies. They are lies because none of them are from God.They are all the work of the enemy, and remember, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12.
We can’t start living the lives we deserve and boldly fulfilling our purpose until we start believing the Truth and seeing ourselves the way God sees us. Layers of brokenness, pain and lies cover up the treasure God created you to be. Think of a radiant princess, she is so full of passion and curiosity. But then the evil queen casts a spell over her, throws on a cloak, covers her with a mask and finally throws her in the forest for her to wander around in the dark. But when we tear off the cloak and throw off the mask, we can start walking in the royal authority we have inherited through Christ. “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” Luke 10:19
In order to be the vibrant, creative, dynamic and purpose driven woman we were designed to be, we must recognize the lies we have been believing and break free of them. Unfortunate things have happened to all of us, but do we really want to give them the power to destroy not only our spirits, but our destinies? Ugh, no! Look all of that mess in the face and say, “NO! I do not agree with you. You have no place in my life and I will not allow you to partner with me anymore. I have a beautiful life to live and lives to change. Thank you and good bye :-)!”
It is never too late for redemption and our wounds are never too great for God’s restoration. “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4. So, throw off the cloak that is covering your beauty, and illuminate the dark forest with the Light inside of you.
