“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against.” Ephesians 6:12
I struggled with depression for years and thought I would never get out of it. But, when I realized that the enemy’s attacks start in my mind, I learned that I had a role in declaring war against any thought that wasn’t from God. I began to see the joy in my life grew drastically.
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5.
God tells us to take every thought captive. This means to pay attention to the thoughts that wonder into your mind so you can quickly acknowledge when they are destructive or not in agreement with the way God sees you or to His promises. There is only power in agreement, so who will you side with?
Since I have been paying closer attention to how the enemy works, I have motives that he has 2 favorite times to make his moves on you.
1. He loves to get you when you are down, sad, disappointed, hurt or betrayed. The reason why is because he can feed off the slew of thoughts flooding your mind from all directions. They all encompass the underlying questions, “why did this happen to me?” He loves to answer that question with lies like; “Because you’re not good enough” “No one will ever accept you” You are too much” “You are not enough” “God has forgotten about you.”
Therefore, remember this: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ” 1 Peter 5:8
Do not allow the enemy to lie to you and do not give him permission to have space or agreement in your mind and heart. When you start to feel him come one, just look at him and say, “Oh it’s just you, my God has already overcome the world and i have fullness in Him, so you have no place here, good-bye :)” When you resist the enemy, he will flee. Don’t give him more attention than he deserves. Just ignore him and keep thriving on His Presence. I promise he will get bored not getting a reaction out of you.
2. He comes on strong when you start gaining strength in your Kingdom purpose. The last thing he wants is your salvation, joy, and for you to influence others for his opposing Kingdom. He wants you to advocate for darkness, not for light. Have you ever started feeling resistance when you’re pursuing a dream? Don’t take that as a sign to quit, take it as a sign that you’re on the right track.
The enemy uses fear as an in. Fear can come disguised in so many forms too that we justify too. Just recently, I discovered that what I thought was a performance driven personality was actually rooted in the fear of rejection. I almost backed out of speaking at a huge faith-based women’s conference last weekend because I was afraid I would fail. The devil was using that fear and feeding off of it to tell me all kinds of things to convince me why it made sense to quit. But I knew it was him, so I kept pressing in and praying for fearlessness. Suddenly, the night before the conference, the fear was lifted and I felt light as a feather. When you press in to fear, it actually dissipates.
Every morning, meditate on His truths. You can actually print out the list from 23 Verses That Reveal Your True Identity and commit them to memory. If you can memorize one a week, then you will have armor to shoot down the devils attempts. The power of life and death is in the tongue, so speak words of truth out loud when you are feeling low. But most importantly, when you speak them out in the morning, you are proactively putting on your spiritual armor to equip you for a peaceful, joyful day. Because you have powerfully partnered with Truth and Light.
Is this message blessed you, be a blessing by sharing with others.
