Let me start this blog off by saying Happy New Year! I am still in shock that 2014 is over and we have embarked on a new year. As surreal as it sounds, we have officially started the year 2015 and I am sure we are hearing every New Year resolution invented. After all, that’s why they call it “New Year, New You,” but how are you really planning to make this year different from last? That’s the question we should be asking ourselves.
One of my favorite things about the New Year is that it allows you to have a chance to start fresh and really take in every blessing or lesson that you encountered before moving forward to a new beginning. For me, I enjoy making a list of 5-8 goals that I want to accomplish in the year to come. It keeps my mind focused on what my passion is, the ability to challenge myself, and to see how God works. In addition, it’s truly rewarding to look back and see how many of those goals you’ve crossed off! Everyone has their own ways of setting up how they will spend their new year.
How do you plan to take on the New Year? To start, prepare yourself mentally and realize that no matter what, God will never let you fail nor will He forsake you.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” –Deuteronomy 31:6
We have to realize that no matter how many excuses we make or how many people we choose to blame, we are the only one that can prevent ourselves from achieving the goals. Why? If someone didn’t believe in you and told you that you should give up and you did, who’s to blame, you or them? In the end, it is your choice. There is no shame in walking your own journey with God on a path that was created for you.
Understand that you were created for a reason and the passion burning inside of you is your fuel to go for it!
Colossians 3:23 ESV “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men”
One of the main issues I hear more than anything is living for others and not for ourselves. Social media, as we know, makes it so easy for us to envy what others are doing, compare ourselves, or lose self-confidence. So, we set ourselves up to fail before we even have a chance to bat! The world does not need to know your every move; leave some things out so that their imagination can run wild.
Every person has his or her own journey and as long as you keep allowing yourself to be distracted in that way, you will make it harder on you to pursue what you want to achieve. Once and for all, own who you are, own where you’ve been, and don’t be afraid!
One of my favorite things I always like to remind myself is being powerful is similar to being classy. If you have to convince people you are, you aren’t. Go after those goals and don’t worry about everything else in between because God will always be there. You are the one that has to live with the choices you make so make them based on what you want to do!
Last, but not least, quit waiting! Realistically, time will always be tough to find. If you truly wait until you’re ready, then you will never start. I mean let’s be honest here, does anything really ever happen on our own time? Sometimes, but sometimes it doesn’t!
Change, big goals, or that big leap of faith is always scary. However, if it weren’t scary or challenging how would you learn anything or experience something exciting? I can recall every exciting memory or hard lesson required me to just go for it! The sky is the limit, what are you waiting for?
“It may sound trite, but today is the only time you have. It’s too late for yesterday and you cant depend on tomorrow. That’s why today matters.”
We have to realize that we only get one life and we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. It starts with one foot in front of the other and just enjoying the journey. Stop doing things that don’t interest you or being with people who don’t make you happy. Take chances, eliminate negativity, and surround yourself with those who lift you up. Don’t limit yourself because you never know just how talented you are till you try.
This quote is my motto for 2015, “Work hard in silence and let your success make all the noises.” It’s a new year so take it by the horns and push harder!
If this message blessed you, be a blessing by sharing with others.
