“Light, space, zest – that’s God! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.” Psalm 27:1
Today, I was at a leadership conference surrounded by some of the entrepreneurs and leaders I most admire. When I walked on to the huge campus at Saddleback’s mega church in Lake Forest, CA, I started feeling like I shouldn’t be there. I read the “Purpose Driven Life” in the 8th grade by Saddleback’s Pastor, Rick Warren. So being from a small town and now stepping onto the grounds from which this book was produced was slightly surreal.
At lunch, one of our friends led us into a secluded room away from the rest of the attendees. As I followed him inside, I realized we were about to dine with the speakers and directors of the conference. EEEEK! This might sound really silly, but I started thinking, “what am I going to say when they ask what I do?” “They are going to wonder what qualifies me to be joining them at their table.” As I went through the buffet line and sat down, I asked God to please give me supernatural confidence and strength.
As I sat at the table with these impressive people whom I know all about, while they know nothing about me, I knew I should be fearless. Although by the standards of this world, I didn’t deserve a spot at that table, we are not to be intimidated by the tangible success of others. As I began to relax and just own who I was with confidence, the people at the table seemed to relax and engage with me too.
“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.” 2 Timothy 1:7 In my total faith driven fearlessness, I boldly explained my vision for women. Surprisingly, a great role-model at the table offered to help me in a huge way. I was so mind blown and humbled, I actually got red in the face and hot all over! Then it hit me that God had planned for this, and if I had been shy in my gifts, I may have missed a divine appointment.
So today, make the decision to be fearless! Know that you are not called to be timid, but to have a spirit of boldness. You have a heavenly force on your side which is powerful. But it is up to you to agree with your Kingdom identity, in order to see the fullness of the surprises God wants to shower on you. Remember you don’t have to feel confident in order to be confident.
