The Relevance and Necessity Of Purity In Your Life

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

The word purity can often get mixed in with old school values or with a spirit of religion or with the Jonas Brothers’ famous purity rings. Maybe the word has a negative connotation to you because it makes you feel judged or shamed.

Today, your perspective on purity is going to change.

Purity is relevant and necessary in your life because it’s about honoring and protecting the connection you have with God, your dreams, your worth and your heart.

Purity isn’t just about waiting to have sex until you’re married. It’s about keeping your head and heart space clear from anything that will give the enemy an opening to get a hold on and in you.

In Western culture we are especially susceptible to distraction because of social media addiction and comparison. There are many things competing for our attention.

The enemy is crafty. He is disguised as an angel of light. He isn’t obvious and apparent. He can use a good thing to distract us from our path, our calling, and our connection with Jesus. That good thing quickly becomes something that will drive us crazy and will never fulfill us or complete us. It can lead to an array of problems that spiral from it.

How can a good thing be so bad?

Because it was never a God thing and it slowly but surely became an idol. We did all kind of things for that good thing. We let it be the center of our life. We let it rule us. We compromised for it.

I even noticed the enemy has been using my desire to accomplish goals to distract me from my main purpose. I have been spending so much time sending emails, finishing various small projects and focusing on my modeling career that I have neglected my primary mission–to finish my 3rd book. The enemy knows my weakness and disguises it as good. I get energized by messages, progress, and hustling. The enemy fuels my lack of focus. He doesn’t want me to finish the product that would change lives and bring His daughter to experience Kingdom living.

His tactic was so slow, so under cover, so seemingly good that I didn’t even notice it until 3 weeks later. And I like to consider myself discerning!

This morning, I had to refocus my prayer and my hearts’ motives on God’s mission through me. I had to peel myself away from my inbox and away from my phone. I had to stick headphones in my ears and play worship music to block out my own distracting thoughts so I could get back to writing.

How is the enemy slinking into your pure head and heart space? How is he diverting your attention away from God and His will for you?

The best way to identify an obstruction to your purity is the thing taking priority over time with God. Is it a person? Is it social media? Is it the need to be liked? Is it TV? Is it food/alcohol?

We are sensitive to external stimuli more than we think. It’s so important to guard ourselves in order to protect the true beauty within us.

Here are six places that are necessary and relevant to protecting your purity:

1. Watch

In regards to negative TV content, Psychology Today states, “TV watchers are more likely to feel anxious, unsafe and fear personal violence in their daily life.” If you don’t think TV affects your thoughts, feelings and mood, try not watching for a week and then watch again. When you purify your mind and then expose it to trash again, you will feel it. Imagine how the visual images are affecting your subconscious mind.

2. Listen

The lyrics and spirit behind the music you listen to can inspire and soothe you or irritate and aggravate you. The more exposure to songs about immorality, the more desensitized you become. Just because a song acts like it’s normal to be a stripper or be promiscuous with a hot guy at the club doesn’t mean it’s good, beneficial or right.

3. Read

One of my weaknesses is comparing myself to others. Social media makes this a constant temptation because it’s addicting to scroll. I’ve made a pact with myself not to scroll more than 10 minutes a day and I specifically don’t look at profiles that may trigger me. Instead of jumping on Instagram in the morning, read a chapter from a spiritual book or download the bible app and read the one year bible.

4. Consumption

Just like the things we watch, read and listen to is our soul food that can benefit or harm us; food has a direct correlation to our moods, energy level, and mental clarity. That candy might taste good, but it’s going to cause you to crash later. Whereas healthy foods such as bananas will also taste good and give you long-lasting benefits.

5. Body

Your body was created to be a temple in which the presence of God lives. It is a treasure. When you really believe in your value, you will realize the power you have in holding the key to your sexual purity. God has given statutes to protect His daughters. Sex releases a hormone called oxytocin in a woman’s body, which is known as the bonding hormone. It’s the same one released when a mother is nursing that bonds she and her baby to one another. Protect yourself from bonding your body and soul to someone who isn’t your husband. You are worthy of waiting for true love.

6. Forgive

One of the best things to do is forgive quickly. The moment you become aware of resentment or bitterness creeping in, do whatever it takes to let it go. Unforgiveness is toxic and will spread faster than you realize and start to control you. I’ve heard it said, “Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” It doesn’t protect you from getting hurt again, it only hurts you. Forgive so you will experience freedom and make sure the enemy doesn’t have a foundation on which to fester.

Take inventory of your life. Do what you need to do to replace negative incoming influencers. Recognize your weaknesses and put boundaries in place that will protect you from the backlash of their lair. Create a space for the Holy Spirit to thrive. The more you have of Heaven, the less you will want of the counterfeits.

It’s imperative to maintain a pure heart of you want to be queen if your life and live on purpose to expand the Kingdom of God.

Purity = The Sparkle Effect

Prayer:

Dear Father,

I want to be close to you. I want to be pure in my heart so I can tap into your voice, so I can see what you see and say what you say. Lord, everything in this life is meaningless if you are not at the center. Please help me to recognize where the enemy might attack me. Show me where I am weak, where I am susceptible of a good thing turning into a distraction and idol. God, will you please give me the desire and discipline to pull away from the people or influences in my life that are clouding my mind and heart. I want my channels to be open and clear for your voice. There is nothing that compares with the euphoria and power of Heaven. Will you give me tastes of it?I know nothing would be sweeter to me. You make me whole, you give me meaning, you make me redeemed, treasured and loved. Help me to be a vessel who hosts your presence because of my purity.

Wonder Words:

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Habbakkuk 1:13 NIV

To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the wicked you show yourself hostile. Psalm 18:26 NLT

Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. Psalm 51:6

Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Colossians 3:5

If this message blessed you, be a blessing by sharing with others.
