Decide To Rise Instead Of Compromise

unnamed-4It seems many people see God as a nice add-on to their life. They think being a Christian is going to enhance their life, career and goals, while also allowing them to remain the exact same and to make whatever decisions they want.

But this is not the case for a daughter of the King. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so we could pick and choose what we wanted from the Word. He didn’t suffer so God could be our genie. Jesus came to set us free from all the stuff we think is protecting us, promoting us and padding us. He came to set us free from the masks we wear, free from the pressure to compromise, free from the need to be liked.

Life with God is so much more than an add-on. Life with God is our life. Take an honest assessment of the things you’re holding on to, that you haven’t parted with yet that aren’t enhancing your relationship with Jesus. Is it lust, leading guys on, alcohol, an eating-disorder, negative self-talk,  letting others control you, sexting, hook-up apps, a wrong group of friends, saying yes when you want to say no?

In our fear, we want to hold on to what is comfortable for us while testing the waters with God first. But nothing magical happens that way. When Jesus called His first disciples, who were fishermen by trade, he told them to “cast down their nets and follow Him.” He was asking them to exchange their former life for what He had for them. They didn’t even question Him. They casted down the nets and became “fishers of men.”

I have learned this verse is so true once you experience it for yourself, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will find it.” Matthew 16:25 NLT.

Thankfully, with Jesus we can cast down our nets any day and find our true, free life in Him. What better time to do that than the New Year. It’s time to start making choices that lead us closer to God, that leads us down a safe and protected path under His wings, and most of all, into freedom.

You may really want to hear God, but what voices are you tuning into regularly? Maybe you want boys to respect and desire romantic relationship with you, but all you are allowing them to see is your body. If you want a radical, incredible, fairytale, magical life…it’s time to get all in for God.

All in means that you makes choices that aren’t always popular, but they are pure. All in means you have decided that Jesus is worthy of standing up for yourself.

What choices are you making right now? Are they enhancing your relationship with God and your destiny or compromising them?

You are worthy to decide to rise, not to compromise.

God has a promise for you, a vision and plans for your future. He is just waiting for you to return to Him. I believed that my destiny was to be Miss USA since I was a young girl. So I started making tough choices as a teenage girl that isolated me from the popular crowd. Preparing for the promise was more important than compromising my dream.

There is no reason why you can’t have your dreams too, there is no reason why you can’t see hopes and visions come to pass. But you have to start living like you believe it’s coming.

What if your dream fell in your lap right now? Would your character and skill set match the calling?

Think about the story of Cinderella. She was chosen to be royalty by the prince because she was kind and courageous. She could be an example, a role-model to other women of what God’s redemption looks like. She was ready for the position of leadership when it came knocking at her door. Her step-sisters Dresella and Anastasia on the other hand wanted to be royalty so badly that they hurt other people trying to get there. All that competing and striving made them uglier and uglier. If the prince had chosen one of them, they wouldn’t have been ready for a position of leadership because they hadn’t been living with the character of royalty.

You are more than fitting in with the cool crowd, you are more than needing to be accepted, you are more than living your life as if you will never get out of this monotonous cycle you are in. Say no to disrespect, say yes to standards. Say yes to choosing to live your life worthy of your incredibly important calling. (Ephesians 4:1)

Rising instead of compromising = The Sparkle Effect

Dear Father,

For too long, I have wandered around aimlessly letting people control my life. God, please take away my desire to be accepted, especially by the wrong people. Lord, I pray that you would open my eyes to see the true intentions of those with whom I’ve been surrounding myself. Show me that I don’t have to settle for less than what you would have for me and I don’t have to try to impress any one. I want to live a life that is worthy of the calling you have given me, I want to be on fire for you, I want to cast my nets down and follow you. Jesus, I can’t be a light, I can’t radiate your love and sparkle when I am lukewarm, halfway in, doing what I want whenever I feel like it. You have a plan for my life and I want to follow it. Help me to develop a plan for my life that is beautiful. Help me to believe in the beauty of my dreams so strongly that I always want to make the best choices that are pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus powerful name, Amen!

Wonder Words:

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Ephesians 4:1 NIV

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 ESV

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8 ESV

The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 30:9-10 ESV

  1. Kristen – You have no idea how timely this is. For too long I’ve talked about and even tried to encourage others to trust in God and in His promises — but I didn’t truly believe in them myself. I’m in the process of ‘waking up’ and this post was a great blessing in this moment. Thank you!

  2. You have no idea how fruitful this message is for me! Thank you for living out the calling God has for you because you are definitely casting your nets down and calling other women out of isolation, fear, and lack of self worth!
